Monastic Weekend: 17th / 18th May
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the 16th, 17th and 18th May we held our first Monastic weekend!
This included two nights sleeping over in the church and performing the full Benedictine liturgy over the weekend. The liturgy included services every three hours from 6am to 9pm, and then a service at 3am (Lauds), held in candle light. It was probably the first time the Benedictine liturgy has been performed in Freiston since the Dissolution in 1539. It was a very enjoyable weekend, and on Friday night we were joined by the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts of 10th Boston North Rural group, about 23 in all plus leaders. They had a very enjoyable sleepover, watching the many bats flying at close quarters through out the night!
The weekend gave all those who attended a very good appreciation of the life of the monks of the priory, for whom we now have a very high respect.
